Finally the news is out! The International Olympic Committee has eliminated Athens, Greece; Bangkok, Thailand; and Turin, Italy and shortlisted Singapore and Moscow as the finalists to hold the inaugural Summer Youth Olympics in 2010.

The Youth Olympics will feature about 3,500 athletes aged 14 –18. The event is designed to encourage youngsters to be more involved in sports and spend less time in front of computers and TVs.

Although Moscow may have the advantage of having the experience as host for the 1980 Olympics, “we offer the IOC the opportunity to create a new legacy, by showing how a small city-state can also be part of the exciting Olympic movement.” Singapore Sports Minister Vivivan Balakrishnan said.

ItchyFingers would like to congratulate Singapore!
